The theatrically minded Annie was considered pretty, cool, and popular back in small-town Kansas, where she was a big fish in a small pond. She had just bagged the lead in the school play, had a rather lovely boyfriend and not a worry in the world. But all that changes when her family decides to relocate to California.
The aspiring actress suddenly faces a complete culture shock. She desires to have her own place in the in-crowd, but will have to start from scratch in the social pressure cooker that is West Beverly Hills High. She befriends local jock hero Ethan Ward whom she had a summer fling with two years prior and her feelings for him resurface, leading to the couple getting closer and closer. But this doesn't sit well with Ethan's current girlfriend - the bratty Naomi, who wields a lot of power in the corridors of the school. Initially friends, soon Annie and Naomi clash and Annie's new life in the sun of Los Angeles gets a lot more complicated.
