Even though she's a native of Kansas - Debbie Wilson was a firm supporter of her family's move to California and backed her husband Harry's new job at West Beverly Hills High. She had a good career as a professional wedding photographer, and hoped to move into fashion photography once she had relocated to the West Coast.
But her healthy relationship with her husband and children is soon threatened once the move is made and various family skeletons come out of the closet. Debbie clashes with her strident mother-in-law, the former television star Tabitha and is also unhappy when an old flame of Harry's returns to the scene with a big surprise for everyone. Things seem to improve when she's given the opportunity to shoot a big fashion spread - but this soon runs into a variety of problems.
