Ryan Matthews is the cool English literature teacher at West Beverly Hills High whose unorthodox teaching style puts him at odds with his fellow teachers and sometimes drives him too close to his students.

The kids like him because he's young and cool, while the parents appreciate the success of his teaching approach. But he's not afraid to speak his mind, which puts him into conflict with everyone around him.

Ryan's lovelife has always been productive, but he's not always been the best at picking a perfect partner. Since fathering a child with Naomi's scheming sister, Jen Clark, Ryan has literally been left 'holding the baby'. Will he manage to juggle his teaching, love life and fatherhood?
