The lovely Charlotte Lau (played by Amy Yamazaki) left Hollyoaks village in Friday night’s episode after taking some cocaine that new student Doug had supplied her, falling off the archway, and paralysing her back! Charlotte was transferred to another hospital away from Chester, but sadly won’t be returning to HCC.
We called Amy (Charlotte) to find out what she’s been up to since she left Hollyoaks and hear about her favourite Hollyoaks moments…
So Amy, your character didn’t actually die when she left the show?
Oh no, she doesn’t die. Basically, she’s just paralysed her back in a very bad way, but it is a condition that can be cured sometimes apparently. But no, she doesn’t die, she just goes off to a specialist spinal unit to be closer to her parents.
Do you have a favourite storyline from your time on Hollyoaks?
Probably the whole Lydia storyline, which was one of the first ones I did when I started. I really enjoyed doing the scenes with Lydia when Charlotte found out that she’d killed Sarah. Charlotte had to keep it to herself because Lydia was emotionally blackmailing her. I really enjoyed the scenes from that period. It was challenging, but rewarding.
What are you up to at the moment?
I’ve just literally moved back to London only last week. I stayed in Liverpool so that I could see people and to do stuff in Liverpool that I’d never got the chance to do while I was actually living there. I’m still in the midst of unpacking at the moment, so I’ve not even looked into new jobs or anything yet!
Who, in particular, did you enjoy working with during your time on Hollyoaks?
I always enjoyed scenes with Beth Kingston (India), Elliot Langridge (Dave), Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove (Texas) and Helen Russell-Clark (Jem), because I’m actually really good friends with them anyway! They’re all slowly gravitating back to London now too. It’s really nice that the friends I had at Hollyoaks are actually now all going to be in London, so I’ll get to see them all lots. I always enjoyed doing scenes with those guys, because we were playing friends and we were friends in real life too; that made it easy.
Any particularly fond memories of your time on the show?
There have been so many! It really flew by; I can’t believe it’s been a year! I think the best thing about it all was being able to spend time on set with people who are genuinely my friends. There aren’t any memories that stand out at the moment, because it was all good, I just had a consistently good time!
