Welcome to this week’s blog from the Hollyoaks music department.
This week’s Hollyoaks musical highlights:
‘Parallel Spaces’ by Picture Book –
We suggested the song to the director as lyrically it tied in well to the opening scenes of the episode and it’s a great, emotive track. We were pleased to have another opportunity to give an exciting emerging band a bit of exposure!
We’ve had a couple of enquiries about the band/track. You can find out about them here:

‘Symphony No.41 in C Major (Jupiter)’ by Mozart –
The opening scene was scripted as Darren conducting an orchestra as a metaphor for his controlling of the Ashworths. The director asked us for something with big orchestral hits and some quick peaks and troughs. He liked this suggestion and it made for a fun intro. It was a refreshing change to have some classical music over the menu scenes as well!
‘No Kind Words’ by The Maccabees –
We’ve been wanting to use this track since we heard it on last years excellent and underrated ‘Wall of Arms’ album so it was great to finally get it on the show. It has a powerful dark feel and some impressive hip-hop style drumming.
British rapper Roots Manuva obviously thought so too as he recently collaborated with the band on a good remix of the track which is definitely worth checking out:

‘Intro’ by The XX –
We use the XX a lot on the ‘Oaks and you may have noticed this track popping up all over trailers on the BBC as well. The song is from their equally brooding and joyful self-titled debut album which is definitely worth a purchase.
On our stereo this week:
A brand new band from Leeds with massive potential, who have just put two recently-recorded demos on their Myspace page. ‘Heart of Wrestler’ combines an inspiring, thoughtful lyric with some explosive and original musical ideas and some brilliant chanted group vocals. The whole track makes you feel like you’re on some sort of magical musical pirate ship.
Watch out for them!
‘Kiara’ by Bonobo -

In next week’s Hollyoaks watch out for tracks by Ellie Goulding, Plan B and Vampire Weekend.
Until then!
