What do you usually do at 10.55am on a Saturday morning? Nothing, because it’s a Saturday morning! If you were doing something I’d be very concerned. What are you? Some kind of poindexter? Stop doing active things and relax, put your feet up, grab yourself a bacon and/or quorn sandwich and tune into T4. Why T4? Well, it’s the place where wonders never cease… or is that Alton Towers? I get very confused. Anyway, it’s the third episode of The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk at 10.55am!

On the show this week we’ve got: 1) Tinchy Stryder, who’ll be doing whatever a Stryderman can (this means he’ll be performing two ditties including forthcoming smash ‘You’re Not Alone’) 2) Lil’ Tom dressed as yet another popstar just because he can 3) Paloma Faith - she’ll be more eccentric than, I don’t know, a fish with mammary glands 4) Paolo Nutini being Scottish 4) A bit more Tinchy because one dose of Stryder is never enough.

Rick Edwards basically says all the above in the below video, but with the precision of a razorblade:

 Rick's kind of people

So, the second episode of The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalana.co.uk went out on T4 last Saturday. It featured N-Dubz (who, second to Same Difference, are probably the nicest pop group out there), Alphabeat (who, second to Scandinavian meatballs, are probably the best thing from Scandinavia), and The Veronicas (who, second to Mel and Sophie Burton, are probably the hottest twins to have ever performed on The Dog patio… oh, who am I kidding! The Burtons weren't all that, were they?).

Also making a second appearance was Lil’ Tom who dressed up as a popstar, but which popstar was he? Of course, I know who he was dressed as, but do you? Two ways you can find out: 1) Visit the ‘Tonight Rick, Lil’ Tom is…?’ gallery or 2) Watch the second episode on 4oD. The choice is yours!

As always, let us know what you think of the show!

We knew our cage would catch an urban pop group sooner or later.

If you’ve kept abreast (stop sniggering!) of the latest Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk news, then you’ll know that N-Dubz are set to appear on this Saturday’s episode of the show.

You might not be familiar with the three-piece’s hip-hop/R&B flava, but don’t worry if you don’t know about The Dubz! You’re not going to be sent to bed without dinner. Anyway, one thing that you should know about Tulisa, Dappy and Fazer is that they’re probably the nicest and most hard-working pop trio out there. I’ve met nice, hard working people before (I once met Holly Willoughby – she was nice AND hard working), so I know what I’m talking about.

I interviewed the lovely Dubz during their time on the show and here’s a snippet of it. I’ll put the full chat in the interviews section on Saturday:

In your brand new single, ‘I Need You’, you say, “I’ve been searching all over Facebook and I can’t seem to find you. I really have to find you baby, I need you.”

Have you tried finding the person in question on Twitter? It’s very popular nowadays. They could be on there.

Fazer: Yeah man. Well, we’ve tried bebos!

Dappy: If I want to get in touch with someone, I’ll just ring them, man. A lot of girl’s might be trying to find me on Facebook, but they won’t. They’ll find a fake one.

Fazer: I’ve got ten Facebooks and I don’t run one of them! I saw this one guy talking to a girl pretending to be me, “Arh, yeah man. I’m so tired from my show the other day. What’s your number?” And I’m thinking this guy has lost it!

Read more from N-Dubz on Saturday, including definitions of youth speak, their friendship with Mr Hudson and The Dubz singing about hamsters!

Rick and Jorgie (Theresa) during the second episode, but who's the band?

The first ever episode of The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk was, like my winter coat, aired on Saturday. Unlike my winter coat, the show got quite a good reception. It’s no wonder when it featured the likes of the sassy Saturdays, Kanye’s second in command, Mr Hudson, and number one selling artist Chipmunk, not to mention a pimpin’ Lil’ Tom, Hollyoaks cast members and ace unsigned punk trio Redtrack.

If you missed all the fun of “Chester’s answer to Glastonbury”, well, put on your wellies and smoke a peace pipe (nb. Don’t do that. I’ll get in trouble) because you can watch the first episode on 40D! Then, after you’ve visually consumed all the first ep goodness, why not turn your attentions to our interviews with the first ep acts? You can read our chinwag with The Saturdays in which they discuss those S Club Juniors reforming rumours! It’s hot news, guys!

Once you’ve done all of the above, then, and only then, will we let you in on a little secret…

On the second episode of The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk we’ll have (urban drumroll please!) N-Dubz performing ‘Strong Again’ and ‘I Need You’, but will Dappy be wearing his trademark hat? There’ll also be The Veronicas (sans hats) rocking The Dog In The Pond patio harder than Gilly after a boozy drinking session. Lil’ Tom will yet again be asking his ‘Big Question’ whilst looking like a pop personality. Why? Because he likes dressing up. That’s why! Don’t question the logic of Lil’ Tom! Then there’s Alphabeat who’ll be putting us all under their spell with a song coincidentally called ‘The Spell’.

This week’s unsigned act performing in a section of the show we call Hollyrocks is Groucutt & Haynes. ‘Upbeat’, ‘vibes’, and ‘acoustic’, are just three words that spring to mind. ‘Andy Moss’ or ‘Rhys’ are just two names that spring to mind and that because he’s their mentor.

Presenter Rick Edwards basically sums all the above up in own imitable words in this video trailer for episode two.

Li'l Tom getting hassled as usual. This time it's episode one acts Chipmunk and Mr Hudson giving him grief.

It feels like I’ve been banging on about The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk for months now and that’s probably because I have!

Back in the carefree summer of 2009 – when a coat was just something that kept the back of your wardrobe company – we launched a competition to get unsigned acts on the show. Over the following few weeks we received hundreds of tracks and eventually whittled down the entrants to a final nine. Redtrack, the first band of the final nine appear on the first ever episode of The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk this Saturday on T4 at 10.55am.

The punk trio from Southend-On-Sea are joined by some sterling company. There’s the glamour and the gyrating dance moves of The Saturdays, who’ll be performing a couple of numbers from their second album. Then you’ve got the number one selling artist and best hip-hop act in the world right now (MOBO fact, 2009), Chipmunk. And then there’s Mr Hudson, whose real name is Ben, so technically he’s been telling us ‘White Lies’, and, would you Adam and Eve it, ‘White Lies’ is also the name of the song he’ll be singing on the show.

Plus, there’s a bit of Hollyoaks stuff in between. So, if you’re a fan of music (or Li’l Tom) The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk is not to be missed! Catch it on T4, 17th October, 10.55am.

 Eye, eye!

I had a little chat with Mr Rick Edwards, The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk presenter. He told us about who he's looking forward to seeing on the show, his affiliations with Liverpool and, most importantly, his lazy eye...

Rick, is it true you've just filmed a scene for a cameo Hollyoaks?

Yeah, I’ve upgraded. I was an extra in a scene over a year ago when I was just doing Sudoku in the back of The Dog, which, to be fair, I was pretty good at. This time I had a couple of lines, I tripped over some plastic reindeer - I did all my own stunts. I got to act with big John Pickard (Dom) and Gemma Merna (Carmel). It's a dream!

If you were to become a regular character in Hollyoaks what family would you be in?

I wouldn't mind being a surrogate father to Little Tom. He’s missing a father figure and I think I could be that father figure. Or, just in terms of excitement, for the number of bras you see - The McQueens! It’s incredible. I was looking around their house and there’s just bras everywhere!

Not everyone will know this, but Hollyoaks is filmed in Liverpool and you're a Liverpool fan. Was this a factor in your decision to present the Hollyoaks Music Show up here?

I thought it was and then I realised that we’d be filming every weekend, so I would not see a game. I’d just be tantalisingly close without getting to see it, but I’ll be slyly checking my phone all the way through the recordings to see how we’re getting on.

How did you become a Liverpool supporter? It doesn’t sound like you from around those parts.

No, I’m from Tottenham. My dad is mad on football and wanted me to be mad on football when I was a kid. He’d make me play football and take me to football and watch football on TV. I loved playing football immediately and I loved going to games, but I didn’t really enjoy watching it on TV – I thought it was boring. He was making me watch the 1986 FA Cup Final and I was not really into it, but my dad made me pick a team, so I picked the red team. The red team went one nil down and I went outside and I helped my mum make a cake and I came back in and the red team were 2-1 up and then won 3-1 and I was a Liverpool fan… and cake maker extraordinaire! My Victoria sponge is next level!

Which Hollyoaks Music Show act are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to seeing Chipmunk. The Saturdays should be very agreeable and pleasing on the eye. Nice girls! There’s a lot of pop grime on the show too, which I’m a big fan of. It’s funny isn’t it? Seeing all the acts on the Hollyoaks set! That amuses me!

Are you starstruck yet?

I’m always a little bit starstruck. Mainly when I’m having lunch in the Hollyoaks canteen when I see the cast just chilling out, eating their roast dinner or whatever – that I like!

And finally, have you really got a lazy eye like your optician thinks?

Well, the thing is, when I look at my eye, I don’t think so.

Readers, look at the picture at the top and tell us what you think (the right hand pic of Rick’s left eye is apparently the lazy one). Lazy eye or active visionary?

The below acts coming to a stage in Hollyoaks viallge this weekend

We're filming for The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk this weekend and I can let you in on a little secret... we've got number one artists Calvin Harris, Taio Cruz and Pixie Lott performing! Pretty exciting stuff, eh?

As well as these chart-toppers, we've got other ace pop acts playing (ok, so they're not number one stars just yet, but give them time to prove themselves, yeah? Don't judge them!). Master Shortie, he'll be there keeping it 'old skool like Thundercats'. Then there's Mini Viva, who'll be hoping that they've reclamined their hearts from Tokyo by the time they're on our showy-o. And what about Ou Est Le Swimming Pool? Well, they'll be bringing their electro-moustaches to the party. Little Boots, she'll be New in (Hollyoaks) Town, so take care of her, yeah? And finally, there's Daniel Merriweather, who'll be in The Village IF he escapes the clutches of Mark Ronson.

Here's the list of this weekend's acts in full:

Saturday

Master Shortie
Mini Viva
Ou Est Le Swimming Pool

Sunday

Calvin Harris
Little Boots
Taio Cruz
Daniel Merriweather

Hollie-Jay really quite likes Redtrack

Have you heard the nine unsigned bands who are playing on The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk? Get on it because it’s relevant to what I’m about to tell you!

Each week on the show will be an unsigned act and each unsigned dude or dudess will be championed by a Hollyoaks cast member (in a way that can only be comparable to how the Cheeky Girls mum used to drag around her most lovely daughters). Now, a bit of a sneaky one for you – Hollie-Jay Bowes (who plays scatter brain McQueen, Michaela) is the mentor for Southend-on-Sea’s Redtrack (listen to them here). Anyway…

Record Breaker host and tap-dancer extraordinaire, Roy Castle (R.I.P) once said, “dedication is what you need,” and, by gosh, Hollie-Jay’s got it in the bucket load. In fact, Hollie-Jay, who infamously once sang in character for the Hollyoaks band The Dirty Diegos, is so dedicated to mentoring her punky trio of vagabonds that she’s headed down to Essex to record vocals with them this weekend! Astonishing stuff!

Rick in MOBS

First off… welcome to the first ever blog for The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk! Over the coming weeks I’ll be giving you the inside info from Britain’s top new music programme. You’ll be getting the following amazements: Goss from all the signed and unsigned bands appearing on the show; announcements about which acts are to feature; tit-bits from Hollyoaks cast members; and gubbins from T4’s Rick Edwards.

Oh yeah! Rick Edwards is presenting the show! The long-term Hollyoaks fan (who has scientifically been proven as a giant) is the man at the helm. We’ve long been a fan of his work and have even tried (in vain) to perfect an impression of the Freshly Squeezed fella. Most of the time I end up sounding like Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins, but that’s besides the point…

About a paragraph and a half ago I mentioned unsigned bands. Well, you can listen to the nine unsigned acts that our judges chose to be in the show riiiiiiiiight... now! Let me know what you think.
