Our friends at Eastpak have been customising. Did you spot JJ's customised bag on the final ep? It was made especially for him don'tcha know.

Eastpak will be giving one away in store this Saturday 4th april (woo!) at their No. 1 Carnaby Street store in London. Not only that, they'll be customising bags as well. The 'Tag My pak' crew will be in store all day, so you can even bring your own image or tag and they'll fix up (look sharp) your bag ('I heart Freddie' might not be a great idea, though it's obviously your prerogative).

You'll like this. We've still got loads of extra stuff coming up on the site. The love stories that were Naomi and Emily (Naomily!) Freddie and Effy (Freffy!) and Thomas and Panda (oh, you don't come up with a name for them, shame) are celebrated in our special recap galleries. Woo!

We've also got a special gallery created by the cast and crew, by 'created' we mean they took the pictures of one another whilst filming series 3 and they sent them to us.

Other stuff coming up too...Bear with us though as it's late and we've been working many many many hours.

The problem with Skins is that it’s always meant to be bloody summer. That’s great when we film in the summer. However Skins takes six months to film and I assure you November and December have been freezing. Even more so that most of the filming for episode ten occurred on the Docks of Sharpness in Gloucestershire.  So while the crew was wrapped up in layer upon layers of clothes and waterproofs not to mention long johns, our cast and extras had to suffer for their art and bare their summer attire.

kaya and jack pretending they're warm

So during takes the actors had to freeze and suppress the cold wet wind coming off the river Severn while pretending to be in the summer sun.

In between takes the costume department would dive in with thick heavy coats, hot water bottles, anything to keep them warm.

keeping warm

kaya wraps up

So it’s not always so glamorous being in the acting world.  Actually that’s rubbish, who else gets their every demand catered for, these guys were pampered. The poor extras didn’t get coats and hot chocolate run in for them, all they got was hyperthermia.

However you can’t deny that the actors didn’t get to have some fun in this episode. Who else do you know has had the chance to go granny racing.

granny racing

It has to be the most bizarre and hilarious thing to witness, not to say worrying as well, especially when Jack (Cook) dropped one of his grannies and we thought we had a broken hip on our hands.

action!

I tell you it isn’t fun being the First Aider on set, some of the stories I’m not aloud to tell you phewww!! Anyway back to the cold.

freezing

Even the crew were freezing with all their layers. We all got so used to being in winter clothing we started comparing long-johns.

crew member laurence

And now we even have a skins crew calendar for this year where most of the crew are just in their long johns and some of us bare all. Unfortunately none of the cast where involved so I wouldn’t get too excited.

This new series has been a real joy to work on, and I can honestly say as much as I missed the old cast these new lot have been a real pleasure to work with, not least entertaining. All I can say is fiction really does imitate life sometimes.

me with kaya and jack

Well I hope you all enjoyed the third series of skins as much as I did working on it and keep watching as it’s only going to get better.
And Merve (Thomas) if you’re reading this I can still kick your ass at pool mate.

Guess what? We'll be sitting down with some (if not all) of the skins cast soon. We're really doing this because we sincerely love them and wish we were their friends, but obviously we need some excuse as well, so we thought we would ask them some questions. Makes sense.

OK, we're really doing it because you lot are our lifeblood. Without you, this site would just be one of them dull 'official' sites with just a load of nice shiny press pictures. But because of you, it's a bit of a monster. In fact, we're campaigning on twitter to become a cult (www.twitter.com/skins) we reckon we'll need 10,000 followers to achieve this. We know you guys know skins and the characters better than anyone, so it makes sense that you give us the questions you want answering.

Leave us your question here and we'll pick some and ask the skins lot. As each character has had their own storylines that have dealt with a wide range of issues (sounds a bit 'BBC' but you know what we mean) and each of you has your favourites, if there's a certain person you want to ask the question just put that in the comment as well. We'll probably be able to work it out, but better be safe. Skins is always safe.

From Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain.

On behalf of all the writers, the cast and the crew of Skins we'd like to thank everyone who watched and commented and rated and entered competitions; for making Series 3 our most successful ever. We've had an amazing year making the show. Sometimes we worked so hard we weren't sure if we were still alive. Hope it was worth it, and anyway, it was so much fun that it probably shouldn't be allowed.

We want you to know that all your comments and thoughts mean everything to us. We read them all and think carefully about what has been said; try not to sulk when you say bad stuff, and are happy if we've managed to surprise you or make you think about things in a different way.

A little respect to the new cast: We hope you'll agree that they're totally brave to bring out new characters boldly when so many of us had loved the first cast. So much some amazing stuff. Some of them had never acted before and they had a hard act to follow. They relied on pure talent and gave everything they had to make you believe in them as characters you could love, hate or both at the same time. Expect fireworks next year.

So the script team are hard at work trying to write stories for series 4 that will mean something to you. All we can say, is that things will happen that you're not expecting. Some of it will be stupid, some of it will be funny, but in there, we'll be trying to go right to the heart of things that matter.

Stand by for some announcements coming up in the next couple of months. There are big developments in the pipeline that will blow you away. And there will be more opportunities to get involved and show your creativity. In the meantime, once again, thank you to everyone. We'll see you soon.

Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain.

We do our best to give you what you want, but it does help that the interviews were on E4 Music; which meant we could put our E4 Music hat on (it's nice, but we don't get to wear it much) and sort it out for you.

What's in store for our very own Bonnie and Clyde? OK, not exactly Bonnie and Clyde - they're not pillaging or anything worse, but they are on the run.

The problem is that Effy is sick of running from one shit town to another

and Cook is falling out of lust, and into love. And he's adamant he's going to hang on to her.

But then there's Freddie, Cook's former best friend and the one Effy said she loves. Freddie is pining after Effy and Cook. And so is JJ.

But how can he fix this if having one means losing the other? And how come JJ's suddenly the man with a plan?

We can't say anymore right now or we'll be told off (it happens when we get too excited about skins), but you can. What do you think is going to happen, and what do you want to happen to these four friends in the season finale?

Katie and Emily's episode
Author

Ha! You weren't expecting that were you? Naomi and Emily love each other and are completely out in the open. Perfection.

Emily fought back and proved to be the stronger twin - when she decided talking to her sister instead of punching her was the answer. And turns out her sister isn't anti-gay, she's anti-her sister getting with anyone. But she finally let go, and now with no boyfriend for the first time since she was six, and Emily breaking free, it will be interesting to see what Katie does next.

All credit to Katie for ditching Freddie and braving the outside, when the most important thing to Katie (her looks) had suffered a setback. We like the Katie we've seen tonight; she's jealous of her sister's brain, and is just as vulnerable. In the changing room when she was sat on the floor she looked completely destroyed when Freddie admitted she couldn't compete with Effy; but she braved it out, and we respect her for that.

But surely the star of the show is the suave JJ? We loved the 'Meet the Parents' set up; and how he now really wants to have sex with girls! A lot.

And the hero? Thomas, for rescuing Emily and forgiving Panda. We love him too much!

Where do the twins and Naomi go from here? We'll have to wait and see, though it looks like the Fitch family may not be as accepting as Emily's friends.

Our favourite moments? JJ and his man suit. Thomas proving to be a true friend. Panda and Thomas back together. The list goes on... But the real tear jerking can't forget moment was Naomi reaching out her hand to Emily, and waiting for her to join her. Looks like they're not holding hands through the catflap anymore, now they're doing it out in the open. And long may it continue.

During this block I encountered my most favourite, most mental day of filming in the history of the universe. Well that’s an exaggeration but it was the most fun I‘ve had. It was the penultimate day of filming for me. So it was brilliant to end with a bang. Twas the delightful day of dancing with Doug…

lisa
Initially when I imagined Pandora and Doug (Giles Thomas) getting down to it on the dance floor I thought ballroom possibly some salsa. Then I attended a Christmas ball with my 6th form college and experimented with some moves of my own with a bunch of friends - possibly considered a tad on the dweebish side. Not my friends, my moves. That’s when it clicked. Pandora and Doug will just let go and dance in their own dorky way. Let’s call it the “Pouga” cause that’s just what I love about Pandora; she just doesn’t care how stupid she looks as long as she’s having a good time.

I was a tad on the nervous side when Giles and I started doing the dancing because I was wearing sky scrapers for shoes. They were so unbelievably high. I looked funny – I was wearing this dress that puffs out so my legs looked like stalks. And to top it off Charles Martin – the director says “Lisa can we get some foot action!” The camera zoomed in on my shoes. So I just tapped away with me feet, kicking my legs all over the place. The extras were supposed to look at me like I was a right numpty – I’m thinking those looks were completely genuine.

dance!

The crazy dancing rounded this series off nicely for me because I started off dancing like a mad man in series two. It reminded me of how Pandora started off.

lisa

At the end of the final take of the dancing the entire crew decided to dance into shot. It was magical! I think that’s what I’m going to miss the most, when something unexpected happens that just puts a smile on your face for the rest of the day.  The past 6 months has been full of these little quirks that have just made the experience even more worth while. From Simon Massey (director) pacing around shouting “Shoot” or “Disasters” to Charles asking for a diet coke (he does that a lot), it’s going to be missed.

Lots of love

Is Hannah the new Doctor's assistant?

We've got a confession to make: we bloody love Doctor Who! Have you seen 'Blink'? One of the best stand alone episodes of anything we've seen. Ever. Except skins, of course. We love how the Doctor totally saves the Universe every week! It's enough to make you sit down and have a soft drink.

Now we also love every member of the skins family, and Hannah Murray is no exception. The kooky yet troubled Cassie will probably always be one of your favourite skins characters, and Hannah played her oh so well.

So the news that these two worlds may be colliding has brought us out in a hot sweat (and not just because we're sat by a window and feel a  like a dog in a hot car). If you haven't heard the rumours circulating the interweb - word on the web is that Hannah Murray will be the new Doctor's assistant! We wouldn't normally listen to rumours but this is so scrumptious we can't help it. Does anyone know anything? Any insider knowledge? We won't tell anyone, at least we'll try.

OK, we're throwing this open to you. We want your thoughts and we want them now! Ep 8 seems to have divided y'all. We want to know exactly how you feel about this ep. We're still getting our heads around it ourselves.

This time we're leaving the canvas blank. You guys tell us what you thought, and we'll post the best arguments on the blog. And by best, we don't mean nicest. As long as you're not too potty mouthed, we want to hear it, even if it's negative.

All we will say about this episode is: where the bloomin 'eck was Panda?! She was bloody surf and turfing Cookie behind Effy's back, that's what! Effy's first proper best friend aswell. And as for Cook, he loves Effy. And JJ, and Freddie. Wasn't he just holding a mirror up to the group? At least Cook's always been open about who he is, and what he's doing (normally sex or drugs, or both). Sorry, we just had to get it out there! The rest is over to you...

Ollie's ep 7 and 8 blog

Well here I am sitting here listening to jazz on radio 2, reading through scripts for episodes 7 and 8 and writing this blog. It’s been a mad few weeks. We spent all of the first week filming scenes from episode 7, my episode and I enjoyed every minute of it. By the end, I had absolutely no energy left whatsoever and all the adrenaline I had been running on had run out. But what a week, I had to annihilate a waste paper bin (which incidentally got its revenge by slicing open my hand when I threw it across the room) and shout at the top of my voice at Jack. The whole week was a challenge for which I was well and truly up.

floor runner ben and 1

The second week was spent filming Kaya’s episode in the woods. It was cold. We spent a great deal of time filming outside and the weather was freezing.

more filming

Thankfully, we had Roz there to dispense the giant puffy coats we get when on location. We were also given these little heat packs which, after you expose them to air, stay hot for about 7 hours.

filming

Needless to say, I spent a stupid amount of time trying to figure out how they worked and finally concluded that the answer must in fact be some sort of strange voodoo magic. Spirits were kept high, at least for a short time, by the mix CD which the director Charles burned especially for the occasion. Unfortunately, we were all pretty rubbish at taking photos, so I have made a representation of what it may have looked like.

us in the woods

The hotel is a relatively new experience for me as I usually just come from home every day, but because I was on set every day, I stayed in the hotel. The drawback of this was that I had to stop myself from eating and drinking everything in the mini bar every night. I failed miserably.

This block has been amazing; I have learned so much and have grown closer to everybody on set. If they weren’t the people they were, I doubt I’d have enjoyed it half as much. There were some quality moments, such as getting Jack Clough to do his Russian dancing, Ben Massey falling over about 18 times in the same place and Kaya smashing Jack’s face with a log to mention a few.

Anyway, I had probably better be off. John Coltraine is on the radio, I’m absolutely shattered and the idea of sleep is becoming irresistible.

Year 1: Tony's troubled and silent younger sister had a night out that resulted in a hospital stay, and also created this:

After Tony's accident, Effy recorded this because she missed him so >>>

Year 2: Effy Stonem totally sorted out Michelle and Tony, Cassie and Sid, and made her first friend proper: Pandora.

She also declared she didn't believe in love. Her older brother Tony saw through her though. But then again, he always did.

Year 3: Effy walks into college on her first day and has everyone eating out of the palm of her hands. The boys are jumping through hoops trying to get into her pants; Katie is desperate to be her new BFF because they're 'the hottest girls at college'. And she does it all without even breaking a sweat (apart from the end when she got it on with Cookie).

She's come between the three musketeers, seen her best friend surf and turf her sex buddy, her home life deteriorate to nothing and now her friend Katie and Freddie have hooked up and are officially an item.

So where does she go from here? And is there anyone around to notice her when the beautiful Effy Stonem finally wants to get noticed?

Don't miss tonight's skins. E4 at 10pm.

Filming episode 7

I was reading the script for episode 7 one day and came to the part where it was describing the Pyschological Support Centre as a desolate shabby place, the kind of place you went to die. Then in brackets, it read: ‘Maybe Fishponds Studio?’ WHAT!!! I couldn’t believe it! This was our place of work and it had been described as a shabby run down desolate hole! Well in the end we did use the offices at the studio and it worked quite well as you have just seen.

swirly

It’s always good I think to let the cast get involved more with their characters. For Ollie getting into the character and mindset of JJ is something he has perfected, because of this he was allowed to create the collage himself. You would have seen it in his room just before he trashed it.

merv

Once again we went to some famous Bristolian landmarks in this episode, if your from Brizol you should recognise Cabot Tower in Brandon Hill Park where we filmed JJ and Emily having a chat about all his different medication. Talking of which I spent a good 2 hours cutting out and glueing lots of drug and pill boxes for this episode, in fact I seem to quite often be helping the art department with their props, the most common prop being the herbal spliffs we use. Imagine the look on our Director’s face as he walks past a table of eager runners all rolling spliffs. Actually I think he said ‘Marvellous, keep up the good work!’ So anyway… yeah JJ and Emily… well the scene where JJ gives Emily a vitamin pill and it froths up in her mouth and he gives her the Heimlich manoeuvre and she projectile vomits everywhere was bloody hilarious!! We had Kat (who plays Emily) and Ollie (who plays JJ) in the Heimlich position ready to do the projectile vomit with Gary (from the props department)  hiding behind them with a hose pipe held up to Kat’s cheek waiting for the word action where Tye (also from props) would pump furiously on a pressurised pump to spurt out a stream of frothy orange water! The first attempt at this the pump was too low on pressure and it just spurted all over poor Kats face and front, not the desired affect! The second attempt the pump was over pressurised and went so far it hit Rob from the camera department who was standing below them both holding a Poly board right in the face! Everyone burst into laughter and the Director said cut! Eventually we got there but poor Kat was hoarse from pretending to be sick all the time as well as being drenched in orange frothy water!

kat and ollie

So that’s about it from episode 7, once again it was a great episode to work and  I hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it. Oh one more thing, check out Midge, our Locations Manager, playing a mental patient being pushed in a wheelchair, VERY funny!!

JJ's episode

Fri 6 Mar 2009 at 10:30

JJ's world was one hell of a ride. Who could imagine so much could be unearthed in one episode?

Let's try not to get ahead of ourselves and start from the beginning: JJ wants to be normal - but soon realises there's no such thing, everyone's got problems.

He makes a new friend in Emily, who finally talks about the fact she's gay to one of her friends. But just as quickly, we also discover that Katie and Freddie are now together - and when Katie discovers Emily is gay, any confidence Emily had is gone and she runs away; leaving JJ to sort things out for himself on his own.

And he definitely tries. From standing up to Freddie and Cook, to discovering Pandora and Cook have been sleeping together, Freddie and Katie are an item, to reading his school and medical reports and standing up to the child bullies, JJ takes on a lot.

And then there's his chilling discovery - Effy Stonem is officially off the rails. But now she hasn't got her big brother at home to save the day, is there anybody who will look out for her other than those that want to get in her pants?

So many things happened. JJ stood up to his mini tormentors, and Naomi and Effy shared a moment. And when Naomi realised Effy didn't care if she was gay or straight, the look of relief on her face said more than a thousand words could.

Then there's Cook. We see that he's living in halls of residence and not with his family. In fact, apart from 'uncle' Keith, we haven't seen any of Cook's family, what does that mean? And when Cook admitted to JJ that he's got 'nothing', you saw that even over confident Cookie had a vulnerable side. Turns out Cook loves Effy too, but knows it's Effy Freddie loves. Was there anyone that didn't feel a little sorry for Cook?

As for Freddie - he saved Cookie yet again; showing that you can still love your former best mate - even though you can't stand them.

But really it was all about JJ. He got number one on his normal list ticked and lost his virginity to Emily, who in turn found a new friend to confide in. And when his mum realised JJ was going to be ok, we were ecstatic.

The only person left to concern ourselves about is Thomas. What will become of him now?

Devfest - three classic skins eps on E4

Skins massive! Guess what? To celebrate the bloody massive worldwide success of our Dev's film Slumdog Millionaire (and the massive 8 Oscars it won!) the E4 head honchos have put their heads together and devised Devfest - the festival of Dev.

Ok, we made up the 'festival of Dev bit'. But we are proud of Dev aka skins' Anwar Patel. Like we're some loony aunt who tells everyone the same story at every Christmas - allow us to repeat ourselves: Dev was an unknown when auditions for the first series of skins began. In fact, he was more interested in preparing for his Science GCSE exam than auditioning for some new tv show. Except his mum wouldn't hear of it, and persuaded him to turn up to the auditions, even though he'd never even acted before. Skins Casting Director Jane Ripley met Dev and cast him as Anwar.

dev at the gower, filming series 2

We were with Jane when she watched Dev on Letterman, and we can attest that Jane was very proud indeed when she saw Dev was doing so well - weren't we all?

So to celebrate E4 will be showing three classic skins eps (series 1, episodes 6 and 9, series 2 ep 2) featuring Dev, followed by The Making of Slumdog Millionaire, all on E4 on Saturday March 14th from 9pm.

Enjoy

But we haven't really gotten to know him yet. There's no love triangle JJ's involved in, no parents breaking up, no family trauma we've seen so far. It's just been JJ trying to be a best friend to Cook and Freddie, and sadly being caught in the middle when the three musketeers are no more.

But JJ has his own problems.

And when he bumps into Emily, they embark on a day in which JJ's aim is to be 'normal.' With Emily's advice that JJ should ask for the things he wants ringing in his ears, what could go wrong?

And so we get to see a day in JJ's world. And what a world it is. Turns out JJ may just discover no-one's 'normal' after all, as secrets and lies are revealed. And guess what? Turns out we're all a little messed up after all, it's just some hide it more than others.

We can't wait until JJ's epsode tomorrow night. He's been overshadowed by best mates JJ and Cook for far too long, which is completely wrong as that boy's a star - did you see his magic tricks?!

Luckily JJ finds a new friend in Emily after they meet in an unlikely place. Take an extra sneaky peek from the scene where Emily and JJ meet, here.
