Just as Nick is tormented by the knowledge his father may have been murdered by a member of the Darling family, so he has to look after Brian Darling's love child! Brian refuses to acknowledge the child and Nick is forced into drastic action to win the sarcastic vicar round.
Nothing is straightforward in the Darling household, as Patrick is also experiencing a problem with his private life, mainly in the form of his transsexual lover, Carmelita. He knows having her in his life could ruin his chances of becoming a senator but is he (ironically) man enough to dump her?
Meanwhile Juliet is sulking in her plush hotel suite and not even Nick or his secretary can persuade her to participate in an important photo shoot with the rest of the family, and a couple of lions. Jeremy, although usually loyal to his twin, is having trouble talking her round whilst avoiding the sexual advances of Juliet's enemy and rival socialite, Natalie Kimpton, who is in the Penthouse room above.
To get to the bottom of who killed his father Nick resorts to stealing Tripp's journal, believing it could have incriminating evidence. But when Tripp interrogates everyone about his missing journal, Nick confesses all to the family. Tripp is hurt by his accusation and although he admits he knew about his wife's indiscretion, he assures him that he would never harm his father. And it seems that he's telling the truth, because when Dutch's suitcase is finally opened, inside is information on suspect number two, the Darling's arch nemesis, Simon Elder.
