King Kong, The PG Tips Chimp, Mr Teeney, Tony Blackburn, Cheetah, Dave Lee Travis, Clyde, Simon Bates and Mighty Joe Young. All famous monkeys or former Radio 1 DJs - but you can add another super primate to the list: Marcel, the Capuchin monkey that stole Ross' heart.
After discovering his wife was a lesbian and getting a divorce, Ross felt that only a small, hairy primate could fill that particular void. But soon Marcel (named after the famous mime artist Kenny Everett) began to hump anything that moved: toasters, standard lamps, small ceramic knick-knacks, relatives and mid-sized ceramic knick-knacks. Once the monkey got too horny, he was given to the zoo.
But driven by guilt and possibly Drambuie, Ross just had to see that pesky monkey again. But Marcel had been stolen and was now the mascot for a famous beer. But surely monkey advertising always revolves around tea products? This could explain why Marcel was soon a big-shot Hollywood actor, appearing in Outbreak 2.
Sadly Ross was barred from seeing his former best friend by the monkey's entourage, in a parable set to music by Morrissey who sang 'We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful'. Soon Ross forgot about Marcel and focussed on Rachel, then Emily, then Rachel again, then a passing pigeon, then Elizabeth, then Rachel again.
