Before Jambo Reginald Ramon Tolkien's Middle Earth took the limelight there was a real Middle Earth, just up near Scarborough or something. While it was a bit less glamorous, it still played host to some epic conflicts.
You've probably heard of the Bayeux Tapestry, and King Harold getting to see William's point close up. This game gives you the whole story, with some tidy combative wargames for good measure. Don't expect an easy ride either - this is tough!
Controls
There's all sorts here. Use the mouse to sort out your actions for each round of combat. Use power and angle to fire arrows, type quick text to taunt successfully, click arrows at the right time (a la rock band) to fight successfully. War's hectic.
Tips
Get your range quickly: the archers are key to success. Also, any units who aren't engaged should at the very least be taunting, there really is no excuse.
Some basic tips:
Shield walls are *not* effective at resisting charges. Individually fortified units are. Shield walls do provide bonuses for defenses against hand-to-hand. So if you're being charged, fortify ahead of time.
Repeated charging in cycles is the most effective use of charges. This means that boars snouts are generally not the most effective charging formation.
Taunting and arrows can whittle an opponents morale if they have to cover the field to reach you. The side with the least archers on board generally is obliged by this to advance and attack.
There's a serious game error when a charging boar's snout has its centre unit break due to morale in charge / evaporate. The other two units continue charging, right off the screen, the broken unit doesn't flee, and the game hangs.
