Its brilliance is in its simplicity. Swim, eat, grow, evolve, repeat. It's addictive, and the music is hypnotic. You can play it strategically, or you can just swim around.
Or, if you prefer, it's a fancy version of Feeding Frenzy where, this time, you can eat fish bigger than you (attack their glowing bodies first), with a slight risk that they bounce you back to a shallower level (a little like the similarly ambient Fly Guy).
The aim, such as it is, seems to be to eat as much as possible to explore the deeper, darker levels of the pond - the organism with the red dot makes you dive down, the blue one brings you back up, and the occasional ripples of the each colour show you where each one is if it's currently off the screen.
