Review

We really weren't expecting to enjoy this one so much - I mean, how many Asteroids clones are already out there? But the inclusion of gravity and the fact that the rocks look like the kind of fish eggs you find in sushi (we love sushi), sets Graviroids apart.

Everything is affected by gravity in this game - the asteroids, your ship and your laser fire. This means that lasers are sometimes handily sucked towards asteroids, but also means that the evil rocks are pulled towards you - or you towards them. Each level starts with the asteroids in a different pattern, but once you start shooting, it usually turns into all out chaos.

This is the games biggest flaw: the first few seconds of each level is the only thing that sets it apart from the next, with the bulk of each level being a fight against lots of individual rocks. It's the curiosity of what the next level's starting formation will look like that will keep you playing.

We found it pretty easy too, playing until level 25 before even losing a life and past level 30 the levels are all pretty much the same. This looks like the first game made by Crash Test Games - let's hope they make a sequel, with more powerups and a two player option to help keep it interesting.

Controls

Left and right arrow keys to steer, up arrow key to thrust, space to fire.

Tips

Try to keep in the centre of the screen to give yourself the best visibility. If you already have a powerup, collecting another won't replace it - it will combine the abilities of the two differing powerups. Nice! If you find yourself pulled into a big asteroid cluster don't keep trying to thrust away from it - it ain't gonna happen. Instead face your enemy and shoot for the core, splitting the asteroid cluster in two and giving you a safe path to freedom.
