Martin ‘Jono’ Johnson died on 13th November 2012 (on screen 16th Nov), following a bus crash that also claimed the lives of Maddie Morrison, Neil Cooper and Rhys Ashworth.
We first met Jono in the summer of 2011 in Abersoch and we quickly learned there was one main interest in his life: girls!
Failing to pull at the beach, Jono was determined not to let the same thing happen when he joined Hollyoaks Sixth Form, convinced he could romance the laydeez. The trouble was, when it came to chat ups he was a bit rubbish! Luckily, his place in the sixth form '"It" crowd was secured thanks to Jono's life-long friendship with Bart - meaning that, happily for Jono, there was always lots of gorgeous girls around for him to try and woo.
His chance for romance (and to lose his v-plates) finally presented itself in the foxy form of Ruby, who was instantly smitten with our curly haired Romeo when he was the only Sixth Former to attend her sixteenth birthday party.
So began the emotional rollercoaster we like to call Juby. The two of them slept together (earning Jono the title of Two Minute Wonder!) and though Jono was happy he allowed himself to be influenced by the opinions his friends - particularly Maddie. Convinced that dating a schoolgirl was not cool, Jono did all manner of things to hide his relationship with Ruby, including asking her to date him in secret and even blanking her in front of his mates. FOR SHAME! Thankfully, he came to his senses eventually.
Jono proved himself to be a hero for the first time when he saved mate Bart’s life, even though the blighter had gone and nicked his missus – the French vixen Lola - during their trip to Amsterdam (Hollyoaks Later 2012).
In November 2012, keen not to end up like waster, stoner mate Bart, he announced that he was joining the army. Not long afterwards, he proposed to Ruby. Fate, and Jack Osborne, conspired to stop the marriage happening, but, it looked like the wedding was back on when Maddie stole a mini bus and the gang set off for Gretna Green. However, fate struck again. The brakes on the mini-bus happened to be dodgy, causing Maddie and the whole gang to go crashing into the venue where a joint wedding ceremony was taking place for Ste Hay and Doug Carter as well as Tony and Cindy Hutchinson. As lives were left in peril, Jono sprang into action, saving the lives of George, Sinead and Ruby. Neil was not so lucky. Nor was Maddie– she met with a sticky end when a flaming bus door came hurtling out of the sky to smite her dead.
And there was still another twist in store. As Jono and Ruby took stock of the devastation, they had no idea of the impact the crash had taken on Jono. He died tragically in the arms of his girlfriend Ruby.
