Clare Devine (played by Gemma Bissix)
There are none more twisted and calculating to have graced Hollyoaks village than Clare Devine (and there have been a LOT of baddies).
After a series of bad (read: awful, shocking and terrible) deeds, including attempting to murder Warren Fox and not to mention her own husband Max, Clare eventually disappeared, believed to be dead.
She didn't go down without a bang though, and took Warren's sister Katy Fox with her (think more car-hurtling-into-a-quarry than girls' trip abroad).
When she returned to the village she brought some dark and dangerous times for the residents. And let's not forget poor Tom, who she tried to send off to social services.
She returned once again in 2013 and here most recent stay in the village was no less laden withcontroversy. In a very short time, she managed to cause a whole lorra havoc. When she kidnapped Mercy and demanded a hefty ransom, the McQueens were sent into a state of chaos. Poor Jacqui got herself mixed up in a people-smuggling scam and had to flee the country in her attempts to raise the cash.
In the end, it was Darren who saw to Clare this time. When she came after her old foe Tom, believing he had her money, Dazza heroically stepped in to save the day. She's in the hands of the law for now, but will she be back? Like adult acne, she has a nasty habit of reappearing...

Gemma took over the role of Clare Devine after having previously starred in Eastenders. In 2007, she won 'Villain of the Year' at the British Soap Awards. In her time away from the village, she became a MasterChef quarterfinalist and also raised money for charitable organisations.
