Jacqui McQueen has a mouth the size of the Mersey tunnel and a heart as big too. She also never leaves the house without her trademark uniform: hooped earrings (XL), leopard-print leggings/top and hair bobble (to be used to scrape back the hair to its very extremities).
Jacqui can always be relied upon say exactly what she thinks and we’ve come to love her for it. She's had a string of failed relationships, most notably with Tony. Their relationship had a lot of ups and downs - well, mostly downs - particularly when Max, the surrogate baby they had via Jacqui's sister Tina turned out to be the result of Tina's one night stand with Russ Owen - Jacqui's ex-brother in law (confused yet?) who subsequently ran off with baby Max, leaving Jacqui devastated. To complicate matters further, Tony's one night stand with Jacqui's other sister (and Russ' ex-wife) Mercedes didn't help much either. Anyway, she also dated teacher Des, who appeared at first to be the model boyfriend, but turned out to be a scary racist. Who knew?
After so much bad luck, we cheered when Jacqui found love and happiness in the arms of Rhys, but this was once again shattered when Jacqui accused Rhys' best friend Gilly Roach of raping her. The case went to court for a special Hollyoaks trial, where fans were members of the jury. The jury found Gilly not guilty and Jacqui struggled to cope with the verdict, briefly fleeing to Spain to spend time her estranged father Billy Alexander.
Throughout the slow, painful process of rebuilding her life, Jacqui had someone who stood steadfastly by her side: Rhys. Racqui had their ups and downs, but they remained devoted to one another and finally married in the most unconventional of ceremonies where Jacqui was still in her curlers! Their love gave Jacqui strength when Gilly returned to Hollyoaks and when he finally admitted raping her, Jacqui and Rhys were finally given the peace and closure they deserved.
Though she's had a difficult past year, this never stopped kind-hearted Jacqui helping all manner of waifs and strays, offering a kidney to Emily, Billy Alexander's daughter and her own-half sister (she wasn't a match though), providing sanctuary for outcast Lynsey and when she found a hairy little mutt outside The Dog (and no, we don't mean Rhys), she took him home and named him Terry!
Perhaps the person to benefit most from Jacqui's support, though, was Mercedes. When she was all set to marry Riley, knowing full well she could be pregnant with his father's child, it was Jacqui who encouraged her to do the right thing and confess, and it was Jacqui who convinced Riley to bring Bobby back to the Village this year.
Mercedes' response to having such a loyal sister? She snogged Rhys. Nice. Needless to say, a furious Jacqui tore a strip off Mercy in a searing McQueen Showdown and when Myra refused to throw Mercedes out on her ear, Jacqui walked out on the family for good. The McQueens without Jacqui? That simply isn't right. We hope they make up soon!
In the meantime Jacqui has occupied herself with helping yet another Hollyoaks waif/stray, taking homeless troubled teenager Phoebe under her wing - even though she dognapped Terry! Phoebe was resistant at first, but the two of them formed an unlikely bond. Could Jacqui be the one to save Phoebe from a life on the street?
Claire had previously appeared in Waterloo Road and Coronation Street, before joining Hollyoaks as part of the McQueen clan.
