Not content on strolling through life with an ace sounding surname, at the tender age of five years old, Jason set his sights on much more – Jason wanted to change the world with his music. 15 years later he's riding high at the top of the U.S Billboard charts with debut single, 'Whatcha Say', and it just looks like the 5 year old's vision may well be coming true.
Jason's success is no fluke. The man, who told us he never watches television, has worked damn hard for his achievements and has put his fingers in many a music pie. He's a (deep breath) a singer, a songwriter, a dancer, a choreographer, a vocal producer and an actor. It was only a matter of time before the music industry realised Jason's many talents.
Multi-platinum music producer J.R Rotem (who's worked with Rihanna, Leona Lewis and Dr. Dre amongst many others) eventually discovered DeRulo and their partnership has already sparked comparisons between Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. Admittedly, those comparisons were drawn up by the less than modest DeRulo!
Uh-oh! Jason's been giving away babies. Read on for more details!
Back in 2003, the UK's Pop Idol second series came to an end with more of a whimper than a fanfare. The winner of Pop Idol that year was Michelle McManus, who'll lamentably be remembered for her weight rather than her singing career. Michelle went on to do pretty much diddly-squat, whereas the second series winner of the Swedish Pop Idol, Agnes has gone on to become a potential global superstar.
Agnes, who shares the same name as a Nan, saw her debut UK single 'Release Me' go in at number three and stick around the top 20 for ten weeks. Now the young lady is about to release her second single 'I Need You Now', which, judging by the sheer amount of radio playlists is gotten, looks set to repeat the success of her debut.
Having just signed a huge record deal in the U.S, Agnes' Pop Idol success seems but a distant memory, and, in a way, that's probably the only comparison that Agnes shares with Michelle McManus.
For sure, he looks like a busker, and, by jove, he likes to play a guitar, just like a busker would, but... can a busker boast selling over a million copies of their debut album? Well, Newton Faulkner did with 'Hand Built By Robots'.
Sporting the ginger dreadlocked look has never been a commonplace way of ensuring popularity, but with a distinctive voice and an even more distinctive - not to mention extremely talented - guitar playing technique, Newton has built up a huge fan base, as his record sales testify. After a nasty injury, which very nearly stopped Newton playing the guitar, Newton is back with a second album, 'Rebuilt By Humans'.
Newton will be playing a huge UK tour in the spring to promote the album, but, unlike a busker, Newton's staying firmly indoors, which makes a change to when he played in a hot air balloon in Switzerland. True story.
When I heard we were going to have twins on The Hollyoaks Music Show with Matalan.co.uk I thought Sophie and Mel 'misery guts' Burton were coming back to Hollyoaks village. But no, the twins the producers had in mind were an all-singing, all-dancing duo. The Olsen twins? No, hotter than that and a bit more, well... better.
The Veronicas (named The Veronicas presumably because their actual surname, Origliasso, is a bit unpronounceable) are a big hit in their homeland down under and we're quietly confident their electo-rock-pop melange will be a hit over here too. This Australia to UK success factor is something I like to call 'The Neighbours Principle'.
The Neighbours Principle is well on to its way to being fulfilled after releasing top 20 single '4Ever' and touring with Natasha Bedingfield, Hanson, and, steady yourselves ladies, the Jonas Brothers.
You think you've got good winter gloves? They ain't a patch on Jason DeRulo's! There's Agnes gyrating on Il Gnosh patio as Lil' Tom watches on dressed as Lil' Liam Gallagher. There's confirmation that Newton Faulkner likes hot drinks. And The Veronicas get a bit too intimate considering they're, like, twins.
