New Hollyoaks heartthrob Riley Costello looks set to cause a stir among the ladies in the village! We chatted to Rob Norbury to find out how it feels to play the eldest Costello son, and how all the new cast are getting along on set...

How's it been working with the other Costellos?
It's been weird. Every day we feel more like a real family, I go home and I'm like 'Oh yeah, this is my real dad actually'.

I get on really well with them all, especially Paul (Carl). Paul and I both like a bit of football or a bit of racing, anything like that. Then obviously Miles (Seth) is like the younger brother, so I keep an eye out for him. And then there's Kim (Heidi), the mum... mental! Great mental, but mental!

Paul Opacic (Carl) said that on Father's day Miles sent him a message?
Yeah, I don't think he appreciated that, but it was all in good spirits. Then you've got Victoria (Jasmine) and Helen (Jem), who are both sound. Helen's part of the extended family, but she's been in a lot of scenes with us at the moment, and she's been really good with us. Especially because she's been here a little bit longer than us, so we get a bit of advice on how to do things from her.

Who's the biggest joker on set?
Some people might say it was me, but I hope not. Obviously, Ashley Taylor Dawson (Darren) is always joking around. Kim as well, she's crazy. If you need someone to keep your spirits up, get hold of Kim.

What's the family dynamic of The Costellos? Who's the boss?
I think probably because of the family's past, Carl is the boss. He seems to call the shots. He lets Heidi think that she's the boss, but I think he makes sure he always knows what's going on.

He's a bit of a naughty boy isn't he?
He is a bit naughty yeah. I think he's got away with it too long for him to not be the boss.

Is there going to be conflict then?
I think so. Maybe over the next few months the dynamics might change, but at the minute Carl's still head of the house.

Your character looks set to cause a bit of a stir with the ladies! Are you looking forward to playing a lothario?
It could be worse couldn't it. It's not a bad way to be dropped in! I'm still waiting to find out really what's going on. The only person that's shown a bit of interest so far is Michaela, but that seemed a fleeting one right at the start. I keep waiting for the script to come through and see what happens!

How does Riley get on with Seth? Can we expect some sibling rivalry?
I think it's kind of like any brotherly relationship. As the older brother you've got to look out for them, but also they're there for you to have a little mess around with. I don't know which direction things will go, but at the moment a lot of the time when we're together, we don't seem that bothered about each other. But as brothers we get on, and that's kind of like most brothers isn't it. You don't want to know too much about them, you just want them there, to have a laugh with and to argue with.

How does the character compare to yourself?
I'd like to think not a lot, but I'm sure people will disagree. Obviously he's sporty and he likes other things too - ladies - and hopefully in that respect I'm quite like him!I think he's a little bit arrogant though, and I think he's got certain traits of his dad, which some people would say is not a great thing.

When you're type-cast though, if you're just playing you then when somebody doesn't like your character, they don't like you.

How has filming been going so far?
Really well. I mean, I wasn't that busy in the day shoots at the start, which was a nice way to ease in, and then with the night-shoots we've started doing five til fives. You're in all day every day and then all night as well, but it's been really good because once you're in at the deep end, you are able to deal with whatever. It's been enjoyable. There's probably about ten or fifteen of us who are there every night and there's the crew as well as the actors. It's a good laugh, you can just flit around and everyone seems happy, even at three in the morning.
