Darren finds it easier making enemies than he does friends with his constant scheming. Darren got both himself and his dad Jack into huge trouble as he persuaded Jack to fake his own death for insurance money. Jack got caught out, and both faced time in prison. When Darren was released he returned to Hollyoaks and met devious Cindy Cunningham.

Cindy and Darren have since had an on-off relationship, and recently decided to scam both businessman Tony Hutchinson and the Ashworth family - for Tony's money and to regain ownership of The Dog. Things have become more complicated, however, as Darren has gotten close to Hannah Ashworth and Cindy has found herself becoming attached to Tony. Darren was gutted to learn of Cindy's wedding to Tony, and decides to try his best to prevent Cindy from making what he thinks may be the biggest mistake of her life...
