Interview with Nika McGuigan - AKA Ruby
Nika McGuigan talks to us about her character Ruby and what Ruby makes of Hollyoaks' own Josh and Gilly in this exclusive interview...
How would you describe your character? Are you similar to Ruby in real life?
Ruby is quite self-assured in some aspects of her life, but other times she is still feeling her way - especially when it comes to guys, she not too great with them. I sound like Ruby and I like some of the same music. Apart from that, I hope I'm better with guys than her!
Ruby doesn't drink as much as Dave and all of his crew. Why do you think that is?
I don't think she drinks as much as Dave and everyone else simply because I think she's driven and knows what she wants. She can't be bothered to waste time and money on alcohol.
What does Ruby make of Josh and his behaviour?
I know Ruby likes Josh, but she wants him to grow up a bit because his behaviour isn't the best. But every girl knows what it's like when you really like someone and you tell yourself "he doesn't really do that", when in actual fact, he does.
At what point do you think Ruby gets fed up with Josh and calls it a day?
When Gilly comes on the scene, she thinks he's more mature and he's a lot more down her street - a bit more sensible, if you can call Gilly sensible?! So I think at that point Ruby's already fed up with Josh, but then starts to become interested in Gilly and doesn't want to put up with Josh's stupid behaviour any more.
Do you think Ruby and Josh would make a good couple? And why?
No, I don't think they would make a good couple. We'd like to think Josh would be a good boyfriend, but realistically he wouldn't at this time. He's very sweet, but he's just more interested in getting drunk with Dave and being 'one of the lads'.
Do you have any funny stories or embarrassing moments to tell?
All Sonny (Josh) and I did on set is quote the film 'Dumb and Dumber' to each other - we find it funny. I don't think anyone else does! But there aren't really any embarrassing stories, sorry.
