This week we catch up with Sonny Flood (Josh Ashworth ) to find out how working on Hollyoaks: The Morning After the Night Before has compared with his usual Hollyoaks filming, and to hear about what his character Josh expected of his trip to Manchester...
What did Josh think of Dave when he first met him?
Josh didn't like Dave when he first met him. Dave's a bit 'lairy', a bit arrogant, he gave Lydia some stick which Josh didn't catch on to much, but as they were gradually getting more and more drunk they got friendlier towards each other. There was a kick off between Dave and Gilly but after that everything seemed to settle down and they got on 'pally' terms.
What did Josh expect would happen when he was there?
I think he just wanted to meet some new friends, meet some new girls, go out and have a good time. Like I said, he wants to experience what its like to be a normal teenager. You don't meet teenage boys every day who are in a long-term relationship with two kids that aren't theirs. So I think he just wants to live that sort of life - he wants to be a musician, he wants to go to University, and he's just getting a taste for it.
How has working on these episodes compared with your usual Hollyoaks filming?
It wasn't that much different really, although we used two cameras so it was faster. We used two cameras to speed up the whole thing because we had double the amount of shots and we were on location. That was a nice difference, being on location - in Manchester or in the centre of Liverpool - also working with new people, new cast/characters. Yes, it was enjoyable, but not too different from the ordinary Hollyoaks filming.
What was the most difficult scene for you during filming?
I guess acting drunk is quite difficult, but as for scenes, you just take them as they come. You know what's coming up - you see in the script you have to look drunk, so it just becomes part of a routine. I've been in Hollyoaks for three years, so you do get used to switching your emotions to suit the scene. Sometimes you're doing the same thing, and sometimes you're doing something different. It's acting at the end of the day... or trying to! (laughs)
