Peyton is the most artist member of the Tree Hill community, who has a love of art and music, especially punk rock. She’s had a complicated family life, discovering she was given away for adoption by her drug-addict birth mother. Her adoptive mother died when Peyton was young and her adoptive father never told her about her true roots – until her real mother turned up unexpectedly.
This complicated heritage may explain why Peyton can be guarded in relationships. When we first meet her, she’s Nathan’s boyfriend. But his treatment of her, and of his half-brother, causes them to split and she is soon driven into the arms of Lucas. But Peyton can’t really deal with the emotional commitment and Lucas soon finds solace with her best friend Brooke.
But as Peyton’s true feelings surface, friction occurs between the two best friends. She begins an on/off relationship with Lucas that spans many seasons. For a while, she was seeing older man Jake. But his complicated family situation led to more problems for the couple.
Peyton’s love of music expressed itself in the all-ages club she set up, Tric, and the charity CD she compiled to raise money for breast cancer research. She also had some of her drawings published in local paper The Thud. Her artist ambitions eventually drive Peyton to make a go of it in Los Angeles. But her dream of making it in the music industry doesn’t go exactly to plan and she’s soon back in Tree Hill.
