We all fell in love with Christina Applegate when she starred as the sexy and sarcastic Kelly Bundy on the long-running series Married with Children. After this she appeared in her own comedy series, Jesse, for which she won a People’s Choice Award as Favorite Female Performer in a New Television Series and a Golden Globe nomination in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Comedy or Musical. Go Chrissie!
She moved into the movies and received accolades for her performance starring alongside Cameron Diaz and Selma Blair in the raucous feature comedy, The Sweetest Thing. She also turned up in Surviving Christmas, for director Mike Mitchell, the Will Ferrell comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, the dark comedy Employee of the Month, indie film Grand Theft Parsons, with Johnny Knoxville Wonderland, View from the Top, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead and Mars Attacks!
Christina then made her Broadway debut in the revival of Sweet Charity, in the starring role of Charity Hope Valentine. For her role, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, as well as a Drama Desk Award in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Musical. Other stage credits include an appearance in John Cassavetes’ Los Angeles production of The Third Day, with Gena Rowlands, The Axeman’s Jazz, Nobody Leaves Empty Handed, The Run-Through and The Grass Harp.
She popped back onto the telly as a guest star on Friends, as Rachel’s younger sister, Amy, for which she got an Emmy. She also appeared in the telefilm James Patterson’s Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas, directed by Richard Friedenberg and based on the author’s bestselling novel. Blimey, how does she find time for Samantha Who?
