Frank is the doorman at the upscale Chicago apartment building where Samantha used to live. Frank has seen it all more than once.

Until Samantha's accident, she and Frank had never had a conversation. Now, Samantha relies upon him as an important link to her past. Much like that brutally honest friend who will actually tell you when an outfit makes you look fat, Frank doesn't hold anything back in his dealings with Samantha.

Even though he's helping Sam regain elements of her past - he refuses to be considered her friend. He's seen too much of her terrible former behaviour and been refused too many tips for that to happen.
