Turk
Turk is the best friend and former roommate of JD and is currently an attending surgeon at Sacred Heart. He comes from a close, but highly dysfunctional family – with his dad estranged and his mom who is a Jehovah Witness, with whom he has a scarily close relationship. He has at least two brothers, Kevin and Jabbari (formerly Bob), a sister and a bipolar aunt. Turk has also mentioned a cousin whom he describes as the world's biggest ‘blerd’, or black nerd.
He met JD at The College of William and Mary, where they shared a room and a capacity for being enormous goofballs, not only frequently dancing the robot, but also intending to build and own one later in life. JD was Turk’s best man at his wedding to Carla, the hospital’s chief nurse, who Turk can’t seem to decide the ethnicity of, failing to recognise her Dominican heritage.
Originally Carla didn’t go for Turk, put off by his arrogance and worried his attraction to her was purely physical. She eventually agrees to date him and, despite Turk’s odd relationship with his old college girlfriend, they eventually marry. And have a child. Carla is frequently jealous of her husband’s friendship with JD, hoping that one day he’ll love her like he loves him.
He’s incredibly competitive, which he claims is the reason he became a surgeon. He enjoys battling with JD in stupid, pointless games such as ‘find the saltine’ and food eating competitions. After a kick in the groin, Turk is down to one testicle, which hasn’t reduced his capacity to procreate. He’s also developed diabetes, which he originally laughed off, but now has decided to deal with. Plus he’s a great singer and dancer – what a guy!
