After two weeks in the hospital all the things JD was scared about have become second nature, which is more than can be said for Elliot who is still rubbing Carla up the wrong way, and has also become the enemy to all the nursing staff, despite her attempts to rope Dr Kelso into her battles. He’s more than happy to leave her to deal with that bunch of malcontents.
Meanwhile Turk continues his attempts to seduce Carla by acting macho and offering her his ‘VIP table’. He predictably fails before she takes him down a peg or three. But she changes her mind when she sees him thinking about others rather than himself and she tells him to pick her up the next day.
Whilst Turk and Carla’s relationship is getting started, JD wants Dr Cox to be his mentor. Convinced he’s lonely and friendless, JD uses their pneumonia-suffering patient Will to open a door to Dr Cox’s heart. Unfortunately the only door Dr Cox opens is the fire exit which reveals Will having a sneaky fag outside.
With the possibility of lung cancer looming, JD realises being a doctor means you can’t change people’s lifestyles; you can only treat their illnesses. More importantly, he also discovers you can’t save your mentor from loneliness with a $3 six-pack of light beer.
