It’s not easy for Turk and Elliot to present a report they’ve been working on at a medical conference with their parents coming to see them. Hearing everybody else’s parents are visiting, JD’s dad decides to tag along but JD finds it difficult to deal with his indecent behaviour and acting as his buddy, rather than a father.
Elliot’s parents are also driving her crazy; her mother ignores her and her Chief of Medicine father immediately rubs Dr Kelso up the wrong way, convincing him Elliot has become a doctor just to impress her daddy. Oddly enough after a patient pukes on her, Elliot realises she can’t imagine being anywhere else; she really loves what she does, and actually doesn’t like her father.
Surprisingly Turk’s mum really likes Carla after she introduces herself, but after Carla discovers they both have lots in common she becomes fearful Turk fell for her only because she is like his mum. However Turk comforts her by telling her why he fell in love with her; she is a strong and independent woman… like his mother, but there are things he doesn’t do with his mama!
Still embarrassed by his dad, JD’s surrogate father figure at the hospital comes to the rescue. Annoyed with his whinging Dr. Cox’s points out everybody’s parents do considerable emotional damage, and instead of crying how horrible his father is JD should remember he could have done much worse. Eventually JD sees his father as a middle aged, lonely guy struggling to get by, and he is finally happy to see him.
