JD relishes being the king among all the interns until Nick Murdoch appears in Sacred Heart. He’s nice, friendly and has the best butt in hospital, and everybody fancies him and his sculpted rear end. Nick overtakes JD in the intern pecking order, and when Dr Cox picks him to co-write a case report JD finally realises he’s lagging behind.
Meanwhile Turk is having problems at the operating table; the thought of how easily he could cause someone’s death freaks him out, giving him stage fright. He decides to tell everybody about his fears except Carla, so she is really surprised when Elliot asks Turk how he is doing and starts bothering Dr Cox about it.
Finally Cox digs down into his heart and comes up with a muffin for Carla and piece of advice for Turk about how to relieve stress before his next operation, involving a quiet bathroom and ‘the old love five’.
Happy in his lowly position within the intern hierarchy, JD gets a shock after he and Elliot find Nick crying on the stairs because his seven year old patient is dying. JD is amazed as he thought Nick was stronger than all of them, but realises it’s not about being the best but about finding the little things to get you through the day. Whether that’s the support of someone close to you or even letting yourself feel overwhelmed, the small things help you survive.
