Dr. Kelso comes up with a competition for the residents; whoever brings him the most interesting case study gets an all-expenses-paid trip to a medical conference in Reno, where they can eat free food, stay in a swanky hotel and try to not embarrass the hospital.
Somewhat predictably Dr Cox doesn’t enter into the spirit of things and jeers at JD for joining the other mindless drones trying to suck up to Bob. Caught between trying to win the trip to Reno and staying under Perry’s wing, JD makes his own mind up and asks Mrs. Warner, far and away the most interesting case in the wards, if she’ll let him present her case.
Meanwhile the entire hospital makes use of Dr Kelso's wedding anniversary (which makes him less of a jerk) as an opportunity to ask him for any new equipment they need. Having been designated to ask for new laser, Turk accidentally gets wind of Kelso’s sweet secret and promises to not to bring it to light if Bob helps him out.
As Cox bemoans JD’s sold soul, JD realises he wants to be a more successful reflection of his mentor, and if he does get promoted he’ll even throw in a good word for him in the future! With the spectre of being JD’s bitch looming over him, Perry discovers there’s nothing wrong with letting someone help you for once and finally asks Mrs. Warner for a recommendation.
