After three of Dr Cox’s patients die because of his mistakes, he turns to the bottle in a depressed state and is forced to take a leave of absence from the hospital. Carla rallies her co-workers and puts together a timetable in which they will take it in turns to stay with Cox to help get him through this terrible time.

When Turk’s new attending surgeon turns up, he’s far from his usual jock-like surgeon and shows sensitivity to everything. When Turk can’t connect with him, JD thinks it is vital that they bond and offers to hep him get in touch with his emotional side.

But while he’s happy to help Turk, he can’t bring himself to look after Dr Cox when it’s his turn. Believing he’s being selfish.
