The day has arrived for injured vet Private Brian Dancer to be released, but after bidding farewell to the staff, they find him unconscious. They discover a letter from the army refusing to allow him to return to service. They realise his sudden illness was really a suicide attempt. They try to convince him to confess to them, so they can keep him in the hospital. But he refuses to be honest with them when they are so dishonest with each other.
In a spirit of confession, everyone owns up to reprehensible activities. Carla admits to switching several pictures of Dr. Cox for more unflattering ones as a joke. Turk finally admits that he and JD's college girlfriend weren't actually having a water balloon fight when he caught them in bed together. And in a shocking confession, Elliot reveals she attempted suicide when young. The Janitor is looking after a fish for JD, which appears to be able to speak and is apparently the reincarnation of Kelso's squad leader in Vietnam. JD accidently smashes the fishbowl and the Janitor tries to save the jabbering goldfish.
Dr. Cox convinces Brian that even if he has nothing left to live for, he owes it to the staff to keep trying. He allows him to be discharged if he promises to talk to a shrink. Elliot and Brian bond over their suicide attempts and, after a kiss, Brian promises to look her up if she's ever single in the future.
