Klumzy Tung and Mr Dero - Headscrews
I’m a proper fan of Klumzy Tung. He makes experimental UK Hip Hop and it’s incredible. The content of his music is really not very conventional in terms of both UK and US hip hop.
I first came across him on you tube alongside Beardy man.You may have seen it. If you haven’t checked it out. Go and do so, it’s sicc. You may also be interested to hear that Klumzy Tung is an A+ freestyler. I met him at a party not so long ago (part of my new debauched celebrity lifestyle) and I witnessed a Klumzy (not clumsy) freestyle first hand, which was incredible to see.
The video for Headscrews is top. You should also check out his YouTube Channel, lots of good shit on there.
Mr Dero is an Austrian Hip Hop DJ who is currently producing Happy Accidents, Klumzy Tung’s forthcoming album. This comes in straight after Nick puts in a less than impressive performance with Liv. I know you should never apologise straight after sex but Liv defo deserved an apology.
Lena Malmborg - A Change is Coming
This weird Folk singer from Stockholm is incredible. She makes really beautiful and simplistic music. Which I think is splendid. This comes in as Liv’s mum leaves.
Best Coast - Bratty B
Best Coast are an LA indie pop outfit whose music simply encompasses the sound of summer and eternal youth… making for great Skins tracks. This is playing in Liv's house when everyone goes round. My favourite Best Coast related tune is All Summer which features Bethany Coentino, the singer from Best Coast and Kid Cudi on shared vocal duties. Cudi’s verse relentlessly builds and builds until Bethany Coentino’s vocals explode with huge energy into the chorus. It’s a truly amazing summer tune.
The National - Bloodbuzz Ohio
We hear this track as Liv exits her sister’s jail and meets that elusive chap Matty for the first time. The National are on 4AD and are a band I’m really fond of. The band’s most recent effort, High Violet, is - to put it simply - brilliant; you’d struggle to find a better indie rock album in my opinion. So, so, soooo good.
Segal - Eat Your Foot
This piece from Segal gets us excited for the effects the mysterious drug will have, but it appears to be doing fuck all. Glad it worked out for them in the end though.
Craft Spells - Party Talk
Founded by Justin Paul Vallesteros in the winter of 2009, Craft Spells create simply brilliant ‘Dreamy Nostalgic pop music’. As soon as I heard this tune I knew it was going to end up in the show. It’s another ace tune from the ever-impressive Captured Tracks label. This comes in as Liv and Matty leave the petrol station after going on the rob.
Simon and Garfunkel - Wednesday Morning
Simon and Garfunkel are remembered for four songs; Mrs Robinson, The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Cecilia. These are all great songs, but it seems criminal that the bulk of the duo’s back catalogue goes without praise. They have made some brilliant music. This is off the album Wednesday Morning 3AM, and it’s an incredible tune. We hear this as Liv and Matty are wandering around high as a motherfucker.

This was written by Straus in 1868 and is a little bit lovely. Liv and Matty Dance to this in the costume shop.
This is from an 1863 Opera. I don’t know much about opera; my knowledge extends as far as Paul Potts (to be fair, he is gangster). This is the second track in the costume shop when the owner tries to do a sex on Liv.
Glasser - Apply
Glasser is incredible, nuff said. I’ve been looking forward to this album so much and when it arrived I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. I think I’m actually in love with her voice. This track makes the scene so cool. She’s an American singer/songwriter that uses really nice electronic elements to create her music. This is defo an album of 2010 that everyone should have. This begins to play as Liv and Matty do one from the shop and get rid of all the evidence.
Freelance Whales - Location
I really bloody love the Freelance Whales album. They’ve made an appearance already this series and I’d happily have them back. Their record label is worth another mention, a fine roster. This is playing when Matty and Liv have gone back to scope out the crime scene and they decide to run away together.
Charles B - Lack of Love
Finally The Butcher has had his way and got a heavy Acid House tune in here, and it’s massive! The Butcher is from Manchester and he was privileged enough to have witnessed the Hacienda first hand, which I’ll forever be jealous of. This tune was massive during the Hacienda days, what I’d give to jump in a time machine. This track is playing in the party and is some trippy shit.
Devandra Bahnheart - Long Haired Child
This LA singer/songwriter is incredible. He makes fantastic experimental folk music. This is off my favourite album of his, Cripple Crow: it’s an amazing album and defiantly worth a purchase. He went on tour with Arcade Fire just before Christmas, which I was lucky enough to catch and it was unreal. His new album All That I Was and All That I Am is out later this year, keep your ears open. This comes in as Franky is last man standing, smoking a fatty.

The Knife - Ebb Tide Explorer
The Knife are the second artists from Stockholm to be featured in this episode. The brother and sister duo make leftfield electro infused pop with often-sublime results. This tune is one of the darkest on the Charles Darwin inspired album Tomorrow, in a Year and works so nicely in the episode. To anyone that is new to The Knife, I strongly recommend the album Silent Shout; it was a game changer. We hear Ebb Tide Explorer as Liv finds out Matty and Nick are brothers. Errr two in one day.

Oliver Girdler - Fall into Faith
This is one of my favourite tracks in the episode. Oliver Girdler makes really nice music. This lad is completely unsigned and really fresh. This is one of his first ever songs as a solo artist and it’s incredible. Every single instrument and vocal on this track is completely him on his own. I expect massive things from Oli Girdler and I’m fairly certain he’ll be snapped up by a label soon - and if he isn’t he bloody well should be.
This track comes in after Liv watch’s the video her and Mini made in high school. As she begins to cry the powerful chorus takes hold. Really happy about this tune.
Villa Nah - Emerald Hills
Villa Nah are a duo from Helsinki. They make pure electronic pop with plenty of emphasis on catchy melodies. Liv’s little sister throws a benny and chucks the bowl as this song comes in. The reason this song works so well is it sort of feels like a new start but Liv’s journey is far from over as she’s about to get a lot lower…

Best Coast - Happy
Another one from the LA hipsters, this song works so well by going against the emotion in the scene. Liv has just necked a bottle of vodka and is far from happy.
Beach House - Better Times
I’m big, big fan of Beach House. They are from Baltimore, US aka land of The Wire. They make really elegant dreamy music not too dissimilar in tone to Fleet Foxes but perhaps via My Bloody Valentine. This is off the band’s third album and in my opinion the best they’ve released to date. I think they’ve really found their feet with this record and I definitely suggest you buy this. You will definitely not be disappointed. Liv tan’s another bottle of vodka to this one, fair fucking play nobody could ever accuse her of not cracking on.
The Walkmen - Victory
The Walkman are a sicc band from New York. They recently signed to Bella Union for the release of the 2010 album Lisbon, which is definitely worth a listen. This is my favourite track off of the album; the explosion of energy is brilliant. This is the penultimate tune of the episode and it comes in as Liv leaves her mum and goes to find her sister.
Grinderman - No Pussy Blues
Massive tune!
This is the new-ish project by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. Whilst not a patch on Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Grinderman are certainly a little bit special. I’m a huge Nick Cave fan. He has made some absolutely stunning music. I think at this moment in time my favourite Nick Cave tune is Straight to You, but this is subject to change on a regular basis. This is the track playing over the ‘next time’ trailer.
