Smallville :

While attempting to stop a robbery, Clark shoots a burst of heat vision that is accidentally reflected back into his eyes by a piece of Kryptonite, causing temporary blindness. He soon discovers that his body has developed extremely sensitive hearing to compensate for his vision loss.

Pete is kidnapped by one of the thieves, in an attempt to blackmail the judge, Pete's mom, into dismissing the charges against his partner. Clark tries to gain control over his hearing so that he can find Pete.
