Twelve years after his arrival on earth during a strange meteor shower which struck the town of Smallville, Clark Kent is adjusting to life in a small, typical American town. He was adopted by Martha and Jonathan Kent and tried to live a non-eventful childhood, despite the fact that he begins to develop some extraordinary powers.
After saving his life his life in a car crash – Clarke becomes best friends with a new arrival to town: Lex Luther, not knowing that the two are fated to be mortal enemies later in life. He also develops some very human feelings towards his neighbour Lana Lang, but tussles with Lana’s boyfriend Whitney – who leads Clark into a school hazing experience.
The meteor shower which brought Clark to earth had drastic effects on many other Smallville residents. A boy wakes from a coma and wants revenge on those he thinks have hurt him. Meteor mutated insects turn another town resident into a insectoid creature who goes looking for a mate. Other characters become firestarters, morphing bank robbers and a human fat-sucking freak. Clark, who is beginning to tackle and control his superhuman abilities, has to defend the town from these dangers.
Meanwhile the Luthor company LexCorp begins to grow and grow while Lex takes more control from his father. Clark attempts to get involved in school politics, but will a swarm of killer bees spoil his chances? And as the series comes to a close, tornadoes hit Smallville and threaten someone very close to Clark.
