Clark has returned to Smallville though he isn't his usual self. He is ‘reprogrammed’ by his father Jor-El, to seek out the Stones of Power from around the world.
A familiar figure, Lois Lane, comes to Smallville to search for the truth behind her cousin Chloe's death. She discovers Clark with his memory wiped and takes him to the hospital. Lana, who left Smallville in favour of Paris has a new love interest and is researching an ancient martyr who is connected to her in more ways then she knows. When she returns to town her new boyfriend follows and soon gets a job at the school. And thanks to the cheerleading squad, Clark becomes the school’s star quarterback.
Clark decides that for this year he will focus more on himself and he will not be worried with what Jor-El has in store for him. Clark’s relationship with Lana goes through a rough patch while his relationship with Lex begins to collapse completely as his true nature and destiny are revealed during a Kryptonite explosion which reveals, literally, his evil side.
Soon other characters are searching the globe for the powerful Stones of Power, but Clark must collect them all for his own sake. His true destiny is also revealed to him by the series end, and a second meteor shower comes to Smallville.
